I have been having some problems with compressed binary files with tar. The problem occures in the following manner. - Save the file on the default tar device with the command tar cv file.Z - Restore the file from same device with command tar xv - The default tar device is a 720k 3.5inch floppy. If file.Z is relatively large, 400k+ there seems to be a problem reading the past about 250k. Has anyone else ever had this problem. Is it a problem with tar or with compress ?? The interesting thing is that I can compress/uncompress all I want until I run it through tar. I guess I could get a new version of compress, 1985 is pretty old. Up until now I have not used tar much, but is an anoying problem. The current version of compress is : -- Based on compress.c,v 4.0 85/07/30 12:50:00 joe Release -- Options: XENIX_16, BITS = 16 The current xenix we have is -- SCO xenix 2.2.2 /386.
