[comp.unix.xenix] mouse on xenix, 1.44MB drive configuration, how to setup ramdisk

robink@wybbs.UUCP (Robin Kidd) (06/08/89)

Do you know of and/or have a device driver for a 1.44M drive on
drive 1. Also , have you ever used a ramdisk on XENIX - how do you
start one up and configure it so you can access it. The manual's
answer to this situation does not seem to work.. I am also looking
for a mouse device driver for a Mouse Systems Serial mouse. Any
help would be appreciated.

I am new to netnews and also to usenet. Any help you could be would
be appreciated. Email address is robink@wybbs.UUCP

   Thanks,
   Robin Kidd

If you mean drive 1 as the first drive (usually known as drive 0) use the
device (for sco xenix) /dev/fd0135ds18 (or rfd0135ds18 is you need a raw
device.) For the secondary drive, use /dev/fd1135ds18.

For UNIX, I believe the device is /dev/dsk/f0q18dt but I'm not 100% sure.

I haven't tried using a ramdisk, but I know that each time the system is brought
up, you would need to run mknod, and then mkfs, and finaly mount the ramdisk
just as you would any other device. It seems fairly clear in the manual, but I
have never tried using it myself.

Good Luck,
Mark
