I am planning to make the move to UNIX on my 386 box. I'll describe my hardware and plans, etc, and am hoping y'all'll provide advice and opinions on which way to go. Mylex MI-386/20 (curr @ 4 meg RAM, 64k cache, etc.. 20MHz) WD 7000 FASST SCSI host adapter MAxtor XT-4170 157Meg Hard Drive (SCSI) Paradise VGA Plus 16 Bus Mouse (Microsoft) Targa 16 (video capture/display - occupies 64k in address space) I need a UNIX to support the following: Software dev package, including sccs and symbolic debugger.. Mail (uucp, others?) and news X11rWhatever MS-DOS (Locus Merge, VP/iX, etc) I have already been told that it's advisable to get the PAL swap from Mylex for to eliminate caching of the upper 2 meg, etc. etc. What should I get, for how much $$ ?? Consider that I am also (very soon, I hope) getting a WORM drive for archival purposes -- It's frightening, but true! - I can't read floppies that I wrote on only 2 years ago!! And no, they havn't been stored on top of the refrigerator! Any help much obliged ... PLEASE PLEASE be a good net neighbor and e-mail, rather than post. I'll summarize the results and post. THANKS!!! -- {apple, pacbell, hplabs, ucbvax}!well!gors gors@well.sf.ca.us (Doolan) | (Meyer) | (Sierchio) | (Stewart)
