(Sorry if being in the wrong forum - this is my first message to Usenet 8) Hello, world! I'm looking for a PD BBS system for Xenix, preferably to SCO Xenix 286. I recall I saw some discussion about this but I can't remember when or in which forum, so would someone be kind enough to tell me - what kind of BBS systems are there - opinions about them - where can they be fetched (preferably through anonymous ftp)? There is an excellent package out for Unix/Xenix called XBBS. Its available from the authors system on (714)-821-9671 or you can ftp it from here as /usr/xbbs/bbssoftware/ALLbbs.tar.Z Steve

At present we are running XBBS which is good but leaves us with a few desires. Shortly (when we debug it) I will announce when we are going to post it onto the net. Or we will make it available from our BBS. Note: This BBS package is being privately developed and has no connection to the site from which this message originates. Mark Gregson

(Adding in Vnews and rn as options). I'd be VERY interested in trying out your package when it's ready to hit the net! :-) I had originally tryed Magpie, and a few others, but stuck to XBBS mostly because of its ease of use/maintaining. I look forward to seeing your bbs running, and giving it a try online! Steve Froeschke

Actually you already have everything you need to write your own BBS right in the Xenix system. Mine is 85% shell scripts plus a few custom C programs, like chat a simplified mail program and the like. I use the news programs for my message base, but you can do your own too. It's a great way to learn the shell structure and awk. Hint: Take each function, one at a time, get it working before going on to the next.
