[comp.unix.xenix] Raw Disk Access

eddjp@dasys1.UUCP (Dewey Paciaffi) (07/12/89)

I am going to be placing my Oracle database file into a raw partition
on my disk. The partition is currently used as a physical DOS partition
which is D: under vpix. What is the device name for that raw device under
xenix 2.3 ??

The Oracle book gives an example of /dev/rdsk/c0d0sA, but I don't think
that's quite right. Any help will be appreciated.

I don't have the manual here right now (its at work) but if you look
in the HW section of the Xenix Manual (Installation and Admin volume
I think) under HD(HW) it lists minor device numbers for all the
disk partitions etc. You can either reference it as the DOS partition
(/dev/hd0d I think) or via partition number. If you already have it
marked as a dos parition then /dev/hd0d should do it. Do a strings /dev/hd0d
and you should get stuff recognizable as the boot sector of the DOS
partition.
