[comp.unix.xenix] Xenix TCP/IP/SLIP Named setup

sl@van-bc.UUCP (Stuart Lynne) (08/05/89)

I'm setting up a SLIP link into another larger TCP/IP network from this
system.

We're running TCP/IP from Lachman/SCO on SCO 2.3.2 / 386.

I do have things working - sort of. But not too well.

I'm trying to use a remote namesever (at the other end of the SLIP link),
but it doesn't work too well. For example ping uunet.uu.net doesn't work the
first time, but does after that (we postulate that gethostbyname() is timing
out before named can get the information from the nameserver, but by the
second time we try it has received a reply and cached it).

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions on how to setup TCP/IP, named,
etc to run efficently at the far end of a SLIP link I'd be appreciative.

One thing is certain, a permanent SLIP connection does seem to be better
than an intermittent uucp connection.
