I've been trying to install the SCO TCP/IP package on a customers 25 Mhz Intel 386 box. (made by Intel) Everything links fine but when you try to boot the kernel, the machine either locks up or reboots. You never get anytype of message on the screen at all! boot: xenix And that is all that shows up on the screen. I figured that if there was some sort of a conflict, it would atleast try to boot the kernel and give some sort of message. I've tried changing int vector, base memory address and the port address. No differences in how it works. I've even tried disabling the 64K Cache. Again same problem. HELP! On a different machine (Samsung 386) this package droped right on - no problems; at least with installation; but that's another story. The problem described: After trying installing TCP/IP on a 25MHz machine, the system hangs on reboot. The answer: (as least for some machines) - you need a new boot program. Apparently some machines will hang when the kernal goes over 640K because some instruction doesn't complete in the boot. I don't remember the exact number of the fix, but the SCO newsletter said this was available to all users, and it is also listed on their dial-in download service. The new boot solved this problem on my machine.
