I ran into a problem recently calling systems with 7/1/E parameters. Our system is set up 8/1/N, and for the most part this works fine. Once in a while, however, we get the parity bits on the 7/1/E machines fouling up the works. I could easily change to 7/1/E, I suppose (haven't tried it, but assume that /etc/gettydefs is the place to put that?). But the question arises: will I have trouble talking to machines (with whom I have previously had no problems) who are set up for 8/1/N? Based on my experience so far, I would guess the answer is 'yes'. So how do I handle this? Is there any way to set things up to automatically shift? I have examined 'dial' and I think it doesn't have the means to set the parity/word length of the device. The cu(1) program seems to offer this, but is there doesn't seem to be such an option for uucico (or its supers). All ideas welcome: if you will e-mail me, I will summarize if it seems appropriate. -- Frank Bicknell UniSource; 1405 Main St, Ste 709; Sarasota, FL 34236 attctc!usource!frankb || frankb@usource.UUCP
