[net.unix-wizards] ld:prog: bad strings table index

After compiling a pascal program (4.1bsd), the loader prints the following
message and then dies:

ld:progname: bad string table index (pass 1)

Does anyone know what this means?  I don't readnews very often, so please
respond by mail.
