[comp.unix.xenix] Xenix Tape Drives

I have decided to give up trying to use my Everex QIC02
60 Mbyte tape drive with Xenix, and buy something more compatible.
The Everex works great with everex software (evtar, evbackup), but
I have never been able to get it to work with backup/restore without
io errors and incomplete backups. (This particular drive /controller
is not recognized when one tries to install it as mkdev tape, it
requires special drivers from everex.)

One thing I do like about the drive, it streams when being
driven by the everex software. When driven by Xenix386 2.3.2,
it stop/starts to death. Does anyone have a 60 (150 Mbyte) cartridge
tape drive that streams when being driven by standard SCO Xenix
drivers when using backup/restore? How do I get it?

I have a Mountain Tape FT-60 tape drive and a controller that looks like a
floppy controller. In the Xenix manuals (SCO 2.2.1), they list a number of
tape drives that can be used. Has anyone ever tried to support one of these
types of drives, or if not, can the system be fooled into liking it? I'm
somewhat familiar with Xenix on the top end, but at that low a level I don't
have much experience. Any help would be appreciated...
