BARFED. Or I screwed up. Sorry.)
I need some advice on a problem I have been beating on for over a
month now. We recently purchased a Mountain 150Mb tape drive for
our SCO Xenix system. It has never worked correctly. Using cpio
we can start a copy, but within about 2 minutes, the tape drive hangs.
Not only does the tape hang, but the rest of the systems does also,
requiring a reboot to unlock the system. All multi-user processes are
affected when the system hangs (no login's on any line). When the
system is in single user mode, we can fill up a tape with information
without any trouble (unless we copy more than 150Mb, then it does not
ask for another tape). I have checked addresses, imq, and DMA channels
and all seems to be ok. Since the problems are in multi-user mode, the
first thing I thought of was the Computone board causing problems. I found
that when I removed the Computone board and the drivers fron the kernel
that the drive worked. After discussions with SCO ("not OUR problem"),
we went to Computone for help. There suggestion based on other users
with compatability problems between Computone and Mountain, was to put
the Computone board at the very highest address in it's range. This we
did, to no avail.
Can anyone help? We have a tape drive supposedly supported by SCO that
will not work. I know we have lots of other peripheral equipment in the
box, but we should be able to have all of them living happily together.

PC's Limited System 300
Excelan EXOS 205T
Computone 16 port
Mountain 150Mb Tape controller
Western Digital SMD Disk controller
2 com boards
EGA monitor card
The OS is SCO Xenix SysV V.2.3.2.
ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated.
