[comp.unix.xenix] Help, 50% of my news is lost

roger@busmn.waiariki.ac.nz (Roger Hill) (09/11/89)

Please Help, this is driving me nuts.

I have a problem with Bnews 2.11.17 loosing 50% of all news received
via uucp mail. I am running this system under Xenix 386 2.3.1 and I
have applied localize.xenix.

My feed is via mailed batches from a nearby Vax/Vms site, the batches
are mail to an alias ( rnews: "|/usr/lib/news/uurec" ) to strip off the
mail headers etc. Uurec seems to be doing its job okay and the batches
are complete when they arrive via uucp. Every alternate article recieved
in the batch is lost ie 1st article accepted and posted, the second article
is lost and the third is accepted and so on. I think that the problem is
within rnews's checkbatch(). The best clue to the problem that I can find
is that all accepted articles have part of the first and sometimes also
the second line of the next article appended ie the end of each accepted
article looks something like this:

#
 or
#!
 or even
#! rne

I have scratched around in ifuncs.c ( checkbatch() ) but have had no success
todate.

I would welcome any thoughts that you might have on the matter, I am
sure that there is all sorts of good stuff in the missing 50% of my
news feed.
