[comp.unix.xenix] SCO XENIX 386 2.3+ - Two harddrive controllers

mark@promark.UUCP (Mark J. DeFilippis) (10/08/89)

Well, alas I am totally frustrated. The following MFM controllers
do not work as a second controller when you use the secondary address
and interrupt 15:

FIRST CONTROLLER	SECOND CONTROLLER
WD-1006-WAH WD-1006-WAH
WD-1006-WAH WD-1006V-MM1
WD-1006V-MM1 WD-1003-WAH
WD-1006V-MM1 Adaptec ACB-2310
WD-1006V-MM1 DTC7180
Adaptec ACB-2310	DTC7180

I am starting to run low on MFM controllers. SCO states in their 2.3.2
release notes that two ST-506 MFM controllers will work.
The WD-1006 line is the only HD only, 1:1, MFM
controller WD makes. The ACB-2310 is the only HD only, 1:1, MFM
controller Adaptec makes. And the DTC 7180 is the only HD only, 1:1 MFM
controller they make.

WHICH TWO MFM CONTROLLERS WORK SCO??? Name them please.
I am running out of manufacturer's, and it is very expensive to have to
purchase every MFM controller ever made! Has SCO moved away from their
policy of only recommending those solutions which they have verified.
How come you don't name any MFM controllers in the release notes? Is it because
you have never really tested any? And if the so called Compaq controller
works you assume ALL ST-506 controllers work?

You also mention ESDI/MFM and SCSI controller combinations will work given
certain constraints. I would be willing to scrap my MFM drives and controllers
if I could believe it were true, but I have lost faith in your credibility.
Have you ever even hooked up a second controller?

Man... the sorry state of things...
If architects were this ambigious in their building plans, entire cities
would be reduced to rubble by now.
