[comp.unix.xenix] How to setup anonymous uucp using HoneyDanbar UUCP?

kayvan@mrspoc.Transact.COM (Kayvan Sylvan) (10/13/89)

Is there any way on Xenix to set up an anonymous UUCP login?

It seems that the calling machine must be known in the Systems file of
the receiving host even if the connection is a one-way one.

The problem is that a site called us with a generic uucp login/passwd
and was not able to connect.

uustat tells me:

csoftec 10/12-10:33 BAD LOGIN/MACHINE COMBINATION

Assuming that you are using the SCO Xenix 2.3.1+ version of HDB, all you
have to do is to put an entry in the Permissions file for OTHER, and to
make sure that "anonuucp" (or whatever you want to use for the anonymous
UUCP login) is in the /etc/passwd file with no password, and finally
that a working subdirectory for "anonuucp" is set up in /usr/spool/uucp.

The Systems file is only consulted when your machine initiates
connections. The Permissions file is consulted when a remote attempts
connection to your machine.

To permit anonymous uucp connections, create an entry for LOGNAME=OTHER
in your Permissions file.

On SCO Xenix 2.3.x HDB, if you've cron'd uudemon.clean you may also wish
to ensure that it doesn't rm your "anonuucp" spool dir if it's inactive
for a few days. There are a variety of patches you can apply.
