[comp.unix.xenix] Xenix on two hard disks

fargo@pawl.rpi.edu (Irwin M. Fargo) (10/28/89)

I'm trying to install IBM Xenix on a Zenith Z-248-12 with two ST-251-1 hard
drives (each one is 42 Mb).

I've ruled out problems with the hard drive (The drive is being formatted at
the time this was written). So my question now is: Does Xenix have problems
installing when the two hard disks are the same?

The second drive has MS-DOS 3.3 on it.
   Thanks.

Not in my installation - I am running two drives that are 1024*8 RLL'ed
without problems (other than a bad 20 conductor ribbon cable).

I have run Xenix on multiple hard disks on several systems. Works fine.
When running a DOS partition on a Xenix disk you may have better luck
creating the DOS partition first. There was a funniness about the
partition table and some versions of DOS, which resulted in a problem
when you did it the wrong way round.

I will add that I used to have a lot of problems which went away when I
switched to PC-DOS instead of MS-DOS.
