[comp.unix.xenix] Modem problems under XENIX - Modems drops line on CD

aris@tabbs.UUCP (Aris Stathakis) (11/07/89)

Hello.

I seem to be having a strange problem on a Hayes clone 2400 baud MNP5
modem. It uses the Sierra chip set.

When the phone rings, it answers the phone, sends a carrier and connects;
But then drops the line immediatley. The strange thing is that it only
happens with getty is waiting for a login. When in a DOS comms package
such as Pro-Comm it answers the phone perfectly.

Does getty look for anything special? Perhaps some sort of flow control?

On the same brand of modem without the MNP5 hardware (same Sierra chip set),
it works perfectly under Xenix.

Any help would be appreciated. Possibly your modem setup and/or gettydefs
entry.

Thanks

Aris
