[comp.unix.xenix] Wangtek 5125EK

peter@ontmoh.UUCP (Peter Renzland) (11/20/89)

This drive fails with "tape write error" whenever I try to write more
than a small amount (5-10Mb) to it. TLC, the local manufacturer, kept
saying "it should work" until last week, when they suddenly said:
"it doesn't work with SCO XENIX 2.3.2 -- I need to upgrade to the 150Mb
model".
meanwhile, DELL says that the only drive they guarantee to work (on DELL325)
is their own 150Mb drive.
Other people say that it should work, or they've seen it work. Still
others say that I should get a ROM upgrade.
I haven't been able to get through to Wangtek support (805) 583-5255.

OS:	SCO XENIX 2.3.2
HW:	DELL System 325

The controller board says:

WANGTEK ASSY 30850-108 REV.D3
ROM: WA10A-15
DIP: 1100011000	338H

Is anyone out there using this drive successfully with the stock SCO XENIX
driver? With another driver? With another 386 Unix?

Thank you for your help.

Peter
