This is to all of you who have installed an Irwin Tape Drive with SCO Xenix. Please help. I was under the impression that it would be pretty much a out of the box "plug and play" installation. Here is the situation. Hardware: - No name AT Clone - 3 MB RAM - Adaptec ACB-2322 ESDI controller (Also tried an WD ST506 clone controller) - Irwin 145 tape drive. Software: - SCO Xenix 286 2.2.1 I ran 'mkdev tape' to install the tape drivers, re-linked the kernel and rebooted. When I tried 'format /dev/rctmini' I got a can not open /dev/rctmini message. The hardware works under DOS (with the ST506 controller - no DOS partition on the ESDI drive). Any suggestions? -stacy -- "He to whom the early bird runs best learns wisdom and patience! ... I'm trying to get my Irwin 10meg tape drive to function on my work computer under Xenix 286, version 2.2.3. The drive does fine under DOS, but a Xenix format always fails eventually (ioctl fails on track 8 (9?)). I am using bulk-erased tapes. After starting the format, the servo write appears to be done successfully (format spins tape silently for 15-20min). Then the 'formatting track ##' appears, but I get an error message just after it starts to format track 9. Writing to a formatted (???) tape only produces write errors. Does the Irwin drive only work under 2.3? Noone at work can find a new set of 2.3 disks, so for now I'm stuck at 2.2.3. -- Simon Gales@The University of Kentucky simon@ms.uky.edu | 'Fate... protects fools, little children, simon@UKMA.BITNET | and ships named Enterprise.' {rutgers, uunet}!ukma!simon | - Riker, ST:TNG
