I would like to know if someone has already experienced problems with Irwin mini-streamer on Compaq386, running SCO UNIX System V. I succeed in formatting and writing ~35000 blocks, as stated below: # tape servo # tape format # find / -print| cpio -ov -O/dev/rctmini ... ... ... ... ... 33512 blocks # The problem appeared when I try to read the cartridge. After some files are read, cpio complains with: # cpio -vit -I/dev/rctmini ... ... ... last file displayed I/O error on read(). # The problem always occurs after the same file (many tries). First, I thought it was a tape problem, and then I tried with another tape. Same results, cpio refused to read after a certain file, always the same on a given tape. I tried with the differents options of SCO cpio. Same results. Sometimes, when the tape is nearly full, cpio -ivt -I/dev/rctmini blocks, no messages , and I have to reboot the system , or to power it down to regain access to the streamer. The cpio process is un-killable. CTL-ALT-DEL is ineffective. Configuration: Compaq386/25 with 6 Mbytes, 1 5"1/4 floppy disk, 1 type 33 disk,1 Irwin mini-streamer. SCO UNIX System V release 3.2.0 system kernel id 1.91 with Maint. Sup. A The streamer driver had been linked in the kernel with sysadmsh facility (System->Hardware->Tape) Unit number: 4 Hope someone can help me. / / Didier Poirot __/ o __/ o _ __ Chorus Systemes (_(_(_(_(_(_(<_/ (_ 6 avenue Gustave Eiffel F-78182, St-Quentin-en-Yvelines-Cedex dp@chorus.fr (Internet) mcvax!inria!chorus!dp (uucp)
