Well, here I sit with a table full of hardware, and a problem. Machine: Compaq 386 (org. model 16hz) esdi cdc 70 meg installed since birth Opsys: SCO 2.3.1 + update "R" Purchased CDC Model 94166-182 (150 meg) esdi drive to "add on" to system. Ran "configure" to modify opsys to accommodate 3 "disk drives" (I put this in quotes because I question what really happened), and TRIED to run "mkdev hd" both stand-alone and from sysadmsh to add the disk, to no avail. All questions regarding a non-standard disk were responded to in detail. Regardless of how mkdev was run, after parameters for disk were input, the "mkdev hd" causes the "seek light" on the new (2nd) drive to go "on" forever (4 hours) with no favorable results. Must do cold start on system. I believe the problem is based in kernel. Looking at "dfile" after configure, I see no change in the number (1) of "hd" allowed. configure seems to have no effect on this parameter, therefore the device can not be opened, and all utilities relating to this device fail. Any suggestions ? Regards, Stephen Comfort-Mason uunet!tcistl2!sccm 800-678-7877
