A customer has a Computone 4 port AT-vantage board which he has asked me to install in a 286 system running SCO Xenix 286 2.2.1. I think he has given me the wrong driver for the card. Trying to boot the system with the card installed causes the BIOS power on self test memory check to freeze up at 512K. So I have the following questions: 1. Why the memory test freeze? Bad card? What are the dip switch settings? System is a 4mb 12 mhz 286 AMI bios. 2. A friend tells me that this Computone card will only work with certain drivers, and will not work with SCO 2.3.X because the card cannot be upgraded to a larger EPROM. Since I only need to operate with SCO 286 2.2.1, will it work? 3. What driver should I be using? I have been given two serparate drivers but have not tried them yet. What installation procedure is to be used: install or custom? 4. What is the Computone support dept. telephone no.? (If all else fails) 5. Is this card worthwhile using? Application is to support two terminal, one printer and a modem on a light use system at a branch office. The customer was previously using the two dumb serial ports on the 286 for a modem and terminal with a parallel printer, and now wants to add a second terminal and printer out in the shop... Performance has been OK and this add to to reduce walking between the shop and office, no real increase in use is comtemplated... All this is a result of trying to be a nice guy to a customer...we normally use Arnet and Anvil multiport boards....and the customer is a good one (and thinks this is no big deal...) Thanks for your help in advance. Macy M.
