[comp.unix.xenix] help with sending fax under Xenix

marks@mgse.UUCP (Mark Seiffert) (02/16/90)

I need some help and hope someone out there has the answers.

I have a MS-DOS PC with a serial fax modem and software and i want
to be able to send faxes from my Xenix machine. On the dos machine
you can convert the document from text to fax for later transmission.
I have done this, i then take that file over to the xenix machine
where i have a program that will setup the fax modem for fax transmission,
dial into the other fax and connect. I know the connection is good, i get
the fax tone, and the machine on the other end (standalone fax) prints
a dividing line across the page like it should. The problem i am having
is when i send the document, the other fax machine does not recognize it
as a fax and does not print it out. I am not sure what is going on. When
i send a fax from the MS-DOS machine, it says something about creating a
header before it dials the number, and then it sends the fax. Is there
some kind of header or handshaking that has to be done prior to sending
the fax image? Does anyone know just what is supposed to be there?

Any help, sources of information or source code would be helpful. Thanks.
