Yet another dumb question. Well, not so dumb, really, just ignorant. All the documentation and USENET writeups on adding a second hard disk controller say "disable the floppy controller if it exists." Anyone know if the second floppy controller can be handled by the system if you do the right thing with the hardware, i.e. map the I/O ports to the secondary addresses (easy) and move the interrupt from IRQ6 to some unused IRQ (hardware hacking)? Presumably some change must be made to /usr/sys/conf/{master,xenixconf}, followed by running /usr/sys/conf/{config && link_xenix && hdinstall}. (Look, mom; I've invented a new syntax for sequentially running programs. Let && mean "and then" and || mean "and simultaneously". Cute, real cute.) The real question is: Does the XENIX floppy driver know how to handle a second controller, like the hard disk and the COM[1-4] dumb serial port drivers? I ask because I'd like to add another floppy drive and an Irwin tape backup. (I'd also like a big house and a dog, but that's not important now.) -- David Schachter llustig!david@mips.com OR MAYBE david@llustig.uucp +1 415 328 7425 (Palo Alto, CA, USA)
