We are running SCO Xenix 2.2.3 on the 286 with an EGA card. We are currently using a product called Viewnix from "Five Paces Software" that is a driver that provides console windows. Each window appears to be a device to an application attached to it. Unfortunately, on two of our processors we have to take this driver out to fit the Irwin cartridge tape driver in. On those two processors the only problem doing this is that the driver also allows us to load our own character set into the EGA font. Getting rid of the driver means that we have to load the font with our own applications. I have a text file that contains the pixel representation of each character in the font which is read in and turned into numeric values which are then given to the driver to put into the font. So far I know that an ioctl can be used to map an application to the EGA card memory and that additional ioctls can be used to do 'graphics adaptor port I/O'. I don't know the details on how to load the font itself. If you happen to know or have a simple example please send it to me or post it. thanks Doug Toppin uunet!melpar!toppin
