[comp.unix.xenix] WD1006MM2 unix/xenix problems

hadji@dasys1.uucp (Toby A David) (03/11/90)

Hi hardware experts.. Am having major problems installing both Xenix 2.2.3
as well as Unix 3.2.0 on a 4meg 20mhz 386 . By process of elimination, it
appears to be the WD1006mm2 controller, since theis happens with both a
seagate 251-1 as well as a miniscribe 6085. Dos has no problems, the DM
formatting software cannot find any drive problems, and the Xenix/Unix
badtrk corresponds to the DM findings. However, depending on where the
partitions are created, bad data seems to be written to the disk, (found
control characters on install list files etc, as well as bad executables
etc). The techie at WD who was very kind, suggested disabling the cache,
which I also tried.. So far the problems continue.
Does anybody know of any similiar problems, please help.
I would also very much appreciate any suggestions for an ESDI 150 or so Drive,
as well as controller which are known to work well with SCO 3.2.
Thanks very much in advance... for post or email.

as controller guaranteed to perform well with 3.2.
