Help! I've been trying to get ELM working and have a small problem. When I point elm to /usr/bin/rmail for delivery rmail gives everything a From anonymous line at the beginning. This really wrecks return mail locally. My configuration is SCO XENIX 386 2.3.2, ELM 2.2 patch level 0. (Where are the patches. I didn't see them on uunet.) The fix I have taken so far is to point ELM to /usr/bin/mail and let it stick the From username on the message properly. This is what it looks like now. |---These are the lines I get pointing it to /usr/bin/mail | |->From damian Fri Apr 13 01:11:48 1990 |->To: michaelb |->Date: Fri Apr 13 01:11:47 1990 Status: RO Subject: sig event log master To: michaelb (Michael Batchelor - WSHB Operations Eng) Date: Fri, 13 Apr 90 1:11:47 EDT From: Damian Centgraf - WSHB employee <wshb!damian> X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.2 PL0] This is what a header looks like when I point it to /usr/bin/rmail |---These are what rmail does with it. | |->From anonymous Fri Apr 13 10:21:22 1990 |->Subject: junk |->To: michaelb (Michael Batchelor - WSHB Operations Eng) |->Date: Fri, 13 Apr 90 10:21:21 EDT |->From: Michael Batchelor - WSHB Operations Eng <wshb!michaelb> |->X-Mailer: ELM [version 2.2 PL0] |->Status: RO junk junk This is what a regular /usr/bin/mail message look like (asksubject on) From michaelb Fri Apr 13 10:26:33 1990 To: michaelb Subject: junk Date: Fri Apr 13 10:26:32 1990 junk junk My theory is that /usr/bin/mail dumps it into the mailbox without calling rmail. When I let elm call rmail poor old rmail doesn't know who the stuff is comming from and labels it anonymous. As a last resort, I have the smail and sendmail sources. I was planning to wait until after I got some other stuff done before trying to get either of them going. Do I need to change those plans?
