[comp.unix.xenix] troff and HP LaserJet Series II printer

We receive a lot of software here with documentation in troff/nroff
format. I have problems getting this documentation printed out correctly
on our HP LaserJet Series II printer.

Currently, I have troff output the text with all the backspaces and
underbars as though I was printing to a regular dot matrix printer. I
then run this through a filter program which surrounds the text with the
backspaces and underbars with the HP Laser escape commands for turning on
underlining and bold print. This scheme "sort of" works about 50% of the
time. Often the page length is one line too short so that the text slowly
creeps up succeeding pages. Other times total garbage gets printed out.

I tried downloading jetroff from the net only to discover that the ancient
troff provided with the Text Processing System will not work with the program.
jetroff requires a ditroff. I called SCO for a solution and they suggested I
purchase Elan Eroff. However, $995 is too much for in-house documentation.

Does anybody have a cheaper/simpler solution? Is there is a third-party vendor
which sells a ditroff?
