[comp.unix.xenix] BASIC or C Compiler for ALTOS 686 running XENIX

flavor of Xenix is System/III based.  Pretty wimpy.  As a matter of fact,
I found the while shebang unuseable without the dev kit (hope you have

Correct.  Altos seems to cut off it's users fairly early along the line.
Also, their support is handled through their resellers (like Arrow 
electronics), so calling Altos without a support contract won't get you
too far.

Best inventory system I'VE ever seen on any xenix system is Realworld's
systems.  I think the last version that ran on the 686 was only version
4.0A1, and that's written completely in COBOL (Ryan/McFarland).  Version
5.0 (present) is written on COBOL also, but apparently has a bunch of
high-speed C stuff thrown in.  Best bet is to find someone who is willing
to sell their old 686 software (most folks have upgraded to 5.0 by now,
and transferred their licenses...  But, some didn't transfer.  Ask around!
