My thanks to all of you who responded to my request for information on the 4.2BSD disc quota subsystem. All of the reactions were of two types: System Admininstrators: It works well. Only one bug is known and a fix was posted to the net. You cannot set a quota on a user who is currently logged in (or just logged out) and who does not currently have any quota at all. It is OK to modify existing quotas while a user is logged in. Users: It is a pain in the butt. Disc quotas work and there was no discussion indicating any known ways to circumvent them. The only serious inconvenience seems to be the following: If you exceed your quota and Unix refuses to let you make more files then you must remove files to get below quota and then log back in for Unix to notice your new status. Again, thanks to all of you who responded. -- -- Art Zemon FileNet Corp. ...! {decvax, ihnp4, ucbvax} !trwrb!felix!zemon
