[comp.unix.xenix] Everex EV811 tape controller or info

davidsen@crdos1.crd.ge.COM (Wm E Davidsen Jr) (07/18/90)

I have a bunch of tape systems which came from Bell Technology. Since
BT modified them to prevent use of the BT software with a stock Everex
card, and since the BT software is totally incompatible with UNIX and
Xenix scripts for all other machines, I am in the market for a few
controllers.

Of course if someone can supply the PAL at U13 (the Everex one) that
would be better. Both Everex and BT have been polite, but unable to
help. Everex figures I bought it from BT, it's my problem, and BT says
they didn't change a thing (but the BT boards have a BT PAL in U13).

If there are switch settings which will make this work with the
standard Xenix frivers, looking like a Wangtek or Everex, I would be
*very* grateful.

[About using Bell Technologies DC600-type drives with Everex drivers]

The Everex drivers for SCO Xenix work just fine with the Everex controller
cards we have, including the one with the Bell Tech PAL. In our case, we
found the Bell software drivers wouldn't work with
the Everex card with Everex PAL, but the Everex drivers worked with cards
equipped with either PAL.
This applies to the "long" Everex/Bell card with Wangtek tape drives. If
using a Kennedy drive, the card needs a Kennedy-labeled EPROM. The
Kennedy EPROM, however, DOES work with the Wangtek drive as well.
Izzat clear?
