Here is the information I have been able to obtain regarding implementation of symbolic math programs under sco xenix on an 80386. In brief, only reduce is available, and it costs $500. 1. Maple -- has not been implemented (source: wmsi@daisy.waterloo.edu) 2. Reduce -- has been implemented, and costs $500 (source: melenk@sc.zib-berlin.de; cf. bob@ibuki.com for another competing implementation) 3. Maxima -- unknown; apparently one would first have to obtain an implementation of kcl, kyoto common lisp. Incidentally, kcl is free licensed software. One commercial version sells for $700 (source: bob@ibuki.com). Maxima itself is available by anonymous ftp BUT IS NOT FREE. 4. Macsyma -- has not been implemented, but implementation might be considered next year (source: rkz@tyrannosaurus.scrc.symbolics.com) 5. Mathematica -- under investigation for possible development (source: washburn@wri.com) Any corrections and/or additional information will be greatly appreciated!
