I am looking for high-speed, high capacity disk drives to attach to a Gould PN9050 using Gould's new high performance disk controller. This controller supports CDC- and Futjitsu-style drives at up to 3MB/sec transfer rates. I had planned to go with Fujitsu Super Eagles, but have been dissuaded by the numerous reports of problems with these drives in this forum (savax.493, godot.735, uwslh.235, mitisft.174, randvax.829, fathom.268). The System Industries 9744 (Fujitsu 2344) is not yet available (cit-vax.1849), and may be fairly expensive initially according to my S.I. representative. The drive I am looking at now is the CDC 9772-858 XMD-II (858 MB, 3MB/sec transfer rate). The Gould folks support and recommend this drive. I would be interested in comments on its reliability. Other drive suggestions would also be welcome. I will summarize to the net. Thanks. Bob Warren Research Triangle Institute ...!decvax!mcnc!rti-sel!rbw
