I have a number of tapes which were written on a Univac 1100 Series machine running EXEC-8. These tapes are not labelled. I have managed to convert them from 9 track format (which I do not regularly have access to from Unix) to 1/4" QIC. What I would like is a program which can help me manipulate and decode these files. If I can not locate one, I will write it myself but converting from FIELDATA (6 bit character codes) will not be a lot of fun. /\/\ \/\/ -- Michael R. I *think* I have something here that might help you. There's a help file and an object file here for Fortran routines to do something like this: "UITAPE comprises four FORTRAN callable routines for reading a magnetic tape of data in a format such as would be obtained by TAPECOPYing a UNIVAC binary data tape to a nine track tape without translation or data conversion." this stuff is *real* old, and is a modification of a thing known as EBTAPE. This is all under tops-20. I don't know the status of source, but you might query remarks@te.cc.cmu.edu about <us01>uitape.
