Well the response was all in favor of creating a new group dedicated to discussing early machines (we're talking IBM 704's and 1130's here) and peoples experiences with them. The reason for the new group being that comp.misc, which is normally filled with such interesting discussions such as 'what is required in a laptop user interface' gets deluged every time someone posts their favorite story about how a certain set of instructions would make the Drum on the 1130 sing. The recent spate of postings with respect to 'What the world needs now is an exploding computer' give an excellent example of this. I think the traffic in this group will be at least that of comp.misc, which although no barn burner does get a steady stream of articles. My question for the wizards of yonder and the small man behind the curtain is "Ok, so we want it, now who sends out the create group message?" Or is their another step before creating the group ? --Chuck McManis uucp: {anywhere}!sun!cmcmanis BIX: cmcmanis ARPAnet: cmcmanis@sun.com These opinions are my own and no one elses, but you knew that didn't you.
