[comp.misc] Hypertext systems, IBIS and XANADU

itsns@dcatla.UUCP (Steve N. Sheppard) (09/18/87)

I was intrigued by a survey of hypertext systems in the Sept. '87 issue
of IEEE "Computer", and am now especially interested in two of the systems
described there: "IBIS" and "XANADU."
The author said that a version of IBIS has been ported to Apple PCs and,
more recently, to SUN workstations. A graphical SUN version called "gIBIS"
is apparently also under development (implying, I suppose, that both graphic
and non-graphic versions are available for SUNs ?).
The author also mentioned XANADU's support (most intriguing) of a
mechanism for copyright protection and distribution of royalties, but did not
go into implementation details.
I'd be interested in commentary from all you informed folk out there
about hypertext systems in general, and IBIS and XANADU in particular.
If you mail to me directly, I'd be happy (honored, in fact) to summarize
for the net.
