Has anybody had any experience with legally exporting computer hardware and/or software to Cuba from progressive countries like the US? Obviously, sending a VAX is pretty much out of the question (pity; havanavax has a nice ring to it), but what's the bottom line on software? Assuming somebody in Cuba were to buy the appropriate hardware from a Japanese or European manufacturer, is it conceivable that they could set up a Unix system? What about sending public domain software such as kermit or GNU emacs? I've noticed, for example, the cute little labels on the Usenix tapes which started appearing a few years ago. What (if any) restrictions apply to sending software which I've written myself? Please note that I'm not interested in ideas on how to smuggle things past the authorities. I'm investigating this for a colleague and we're only interested in doing things in a completely legal and above-board manner. -- Roy Smith, System Administrator Public Health Research Institute {allegra,philabs,cmcl2,rutgers}!phri!roy -or- phri!roy@uunet.uu.net "The connector is the network"
