There's an interesting article on C in the latest issue of Byte, by none other than Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie. Byte still has some cool stuff once in a while, but on the whole I agree that they're losing their voice by pandering to the PC, and printing Pournelle, but that's another story... -- -- -- Karl Lehenbauer, karl@sugar.uu.net aka uunet!sugar!karl, +1 713 274 5184

The K&R article came from a 5-year-old article in IEEE Potentials, a student magazine. The info wasn't much more than was included in the preface to "C" first edition, which is circa 1978. I feel it was a blatant attempt on Byte's part to 'catch-up' the IBMers that still read the magazine on information they used to publish before the fact, not after. It's kind of like Road and Track publishing an old paper by GM engineers explaining why they were going to make the Corvette out of fiberglass... -- Charles Lord ..!decvax!mcnc!ecsvax!cjl Usenet Cary, NC cjl@ecsvax.uncecs.edu Bitnet #include <std.disclamers> #include <cutsey.quote>
