Hi, I just discovered that my Article on Joint ventures with the Soviets is anout 53k in size. Because if it's length, would it still be OK to post it here on "comp.misc". During my initial query, on the news.admin newsgroup, the general concensus was to post it HERE. Do I have any objections, or any suggestions to post it elsewhere, of so, then Where should it go?? Tom Neff writes: >I haven't seen any of the Crunch-man's prior postings on a USSR gateway, >but boy would it be fantastic. John ought to have a blast pioneering it, >only so long as the Sovs don't get hold of his curriculum vitae! :-) The Soviets already know, but have NOT asked me questions about it. They read about me in "Fire in the Valley" and "Hackers", and they are polite enough not to ask about my past. >The initial process of ceremonial howdys etc. would work will in comp.misc >or any of the other general purpose newsgroups. I would hope, though, >that if the gateway is "real" something could be done to segregate by >subject. I'm sure our Sov counterparts have oodles of questions about >how to get their decadent Western PCs to run. Of course then the >State Dept. might come down on us like a ton of bricks for technology >transfer. That's why it's so good to have John out there in front! :-) Gee... Thanx... Any UNIX site in the SF Bay area can be a Soviet Backbone UUCP site for less cost than imagined. Just a reminder, I have inquired about the Trade act of 1979, and it's going to get studied carefully. In fact, I'm open for advice if I should take the time to enter it in the appropriate place. It will be up to the specific UUCP Backbone site posessing the Moscow link to regulate information flow to the Soviet Union. Over the next few weeks, I will be a "Gateway" on an experimental basis, to send some sample chit-chat to a very small number of Soviet folks initially. We will be able to obtain information from them. John D. uunet!acad!well!crunch

I took a "history of computing" course at CMU from a guy by the name of John Tomayko, who's worked for NASA, among others. He claimed that one of the major machines being used over there was an IBM 370/128, that they were cloning. I've also heard that they have Apple II clones, cased in red plastic. -- @disclaimer(Any concepts or opinions above are entirely mine, not those of my employer, my GIGI, or my 11/34) beak is@>beak is not Anthony A.
