[comp.misc] Soviets on USENET?

rang@cpsin3.cps.msu.edu (Anton Rang) (12/01/88)

Personally, I think that the most important thing in the world today
is communication between people. The more we communicate with the
Soviets, the better we can understand them, and the better they can
understand us. Governments and diplomacy is fine as far as it goes,
but you really need to get the PEOPLE communicating to achieve real
cooperation.
I think having a USENET feed into and out of the U.S.S.R. would be
great. Why? So I could learn more about what's going on over there.
I realize that there could well be censorship, or proscribed topics,
but even so I think that the exchange of information would still be
good. (Could we send E-mail, too?)
An interesting note (which I heard on All Things Considered
yesterday [two days ago now]) is that the Soviets have stopped jamming
(at least temporarily) one of our propaganda stations...I forget which
one offhand...Radio Free Europe? I'm not sure. Maybe this is a good
sign....
(Wow! Maybe I can be in the NSA files, too!)
