Could anyone please tell me what BBS stand for.

What's a BBS?  Surely you jest.

BBS stands for Bulletin Board System, a computer that people can dial into
with modems and leave messages, chat with the sysop or other users, upload/
download programs, etc.

There are zillions of them around the world, if you've got a modem you could
call some in your area.
