Hello net! I hope SOMEONE can help me here. I posted this a little while ago, but the complete lack of ANY response made me curious. No one out there wants a computer-controlled CD-Audio player??? Strange. No one is making one???! Even stranger! I need some leads to a company and/or solution to this problem: I need to find a computer-controlled (through a standard RS-232 protocol interface) CD-audio player for a project I am working on. It doesn't have to be a CD-ROM player, but that would be OK. I need to be able to control the player in the same way as the controls do on the player itself as well as being able to position the laser pickup anywhere on the disc. It than will simply play the audio after positioning. That's it. Simple, right? Can anyone help? Please e-mail or write. I can't help you w/ the RS232 interface. Toshiba makes a CD w/ SCSI interface. XM-3200B/3201B comes w/ SCSI interface board and software for IBM PC. There's and audio jack on the front of the CD drive so I assume you can get audio of the disk. The Revox CD players all have a modular assembly which includes the capability of direct control over an RS-232-C link. You need to purchase an external Revox box to actually sit between the computer and the CD player, but this is a bonus, because the external box handles several devices. The CD player link includes access to all the diagnostic information, and all the control signals. A very nice job. Contact your local Revox dealer for details. There is a real chance your local dealer won't have a clue what you are talking about (it's not in the standard literature here in Canada), in which case insist on details of the national dealer, and contact them. I am not posting details of model numbers and such here because my own equipment is several years old, and I have no idea what is currently available. This stuff is not cheap. A year ago the Canadian prices were $1,800 for the CD player and $750 for the external interface box. However, Revox equipment is built to an extraordinarily high standard, has great specs, and they provide first class support. I speak only as a happy Revox user of long standing ( > 20 years) in private life. Robert_S -- Robert Stanley - Cognos Incorporated: 3755 Riverside Drive, P.O.
