[net.unix-wizards] deceptive mail and su

howard@cyb-eng.UUCP (Howard Johnson) (11/16/84)

This conversation about su has me wondering: What do people usually use
su for? I see two commonly used functions here: 1) administrative and
maintenance functions (e.g. su news; ...) for required access privileges,
and 2) for someone else to do/show something (e.g. su - joe; ...; EOT).

It seems to me that su could be smart enough to distinguish between these
two uses (since it already has separate command sequences which are
documented). Opinions?
