[comp.misc] looking for job opportunities near Albuquerque

sysruth@helios.physics.utoronto.ca (Ruth Milner) (09/14/89)

This message is directed primarily to people in Albuquerque, NM and the
surrounding area.

In mid-December I will be moving to New Mexico as my husband is taking up
a position at the VLA in Socorro. I will be looking for a job within, say,
an hour or so's drive. Some background on my experience and interests: for
the past three years I have been responsible for a fairly large (30+ CPU's,
400+ active accounts) network of computers including VAXes running VMS,
Sun/IRIS workstations and servers running UNIX (both BSD and System V), and
a large number of third-party peripherals. As the Systems Manager here, I
maintain all the hardware and software on these research-oriented systems,
and the Ethernet-TCP/IP-DECnet-VAXcluster-email networking which connects
them. For more detailed information, I am posting my resume in TeX format
(troff to follow later; TeX is the primary typesetting program used here)
to misc.jobs.resumes .

I love my work, and ideally would like to continue this kind of mixed
hardware/software, hands-on/management combination, preferably in an academic
or research-related environment. However I am flexible and willing to
consider other positions.

I am a Canadian citizen and therefore eligible for the relaxed requirements
implemented by the Free Trade Agreement, and, I understand, for some
limited levels of U.S. security clearance, although I do not know very much
about the latter.

If you know of a site which has this kind of environment, or something
similar, I would greatly appreciate an address and perhaps the name of
a contact there. As you might imagine, it is difficult to hunt in the dark
from 2000 miles away :-).

Thank you all very much.
