[comp.misc] Public Information New Delivery

rwmira01@ULKYVX.BITNET (Rob Miracle) (10/12/89)

I am on a committee here trying to address our delivery of documentation that
we write to our user community. This documentation includes such things as
Help Sheets (How To sheets), System Price Lists, etc. We are looking for an
electronic solution to this delivery.

We are looking for some information on what you do at your institution
regarding the delivery of public information to your users.

The needs of our system are:
Availability to the most users in our community.
  Anonymous Login/Access
Ability to move the cursor to a one line listing such as a subject
and pressing a key to read that item.
Ability to download a file (binary as well as ASCII)
  Ability to print the file.

What we would like to know is:
Do you have a system like this?
  What are the hardware requirements?
What level of support is needed to maintain the system?
  What are the software requirements?
Was it written in-house or acquired/purchased?
If the later where and how much?

If you or someone within your computing center can help me, I would appreciate
it. Please correspond by e-mail as I do not subscribe to this group.

Thanks in advance
Rob
