Here's the (long awaited??) followup posting I promised regarding serial
"multiplexors".  First, thanks to everyone who responded.  I gathered quyite
a bit of information, which will (hopefully) make the final selection process
a bit easier.  I've requested information from all of the sources listed
below, and will post my eventual decisions and findings.
