I would like to hear from anyone who has designed hypermedia material for use on a laptop. I have seen hypermedia displayed on a low-end laptop and was not impressed. I could not distinguish links from the rest of the text because of the poor quality of the screen display. I have reviewed some of the recent literature on laptops and have determined that DynaVision from Scenario, Inc. offers the best features for a portable information delivery system (PIDS). It has a high-resolution touchscreen, a CD-ROM drive, a hard disk drive, a flexible disk drive, an 80286 processor, and 640 K of RAM. It also has an optional battery pack and a port for a keyboard. Without the optional equipment, it weighs around 17 pounds. Has anyone else done any research in this area? If so, please share your knowledge by answering the following questions. What are the pitfalls of providing hypermedia information on a laptop? What are the best hardware and software products for this purpose? How did you handle graphics? What authoring strategies did you use? What other advice do you have? Chris Velotta Computer Aided Publications NCR, Peripheral Products Division (316) 636-8829
