In connection with a study I'm doing, I'm hoping some of you in
net.land can help me out. I'm looking into the possibility of
the purchase of some kind of alternative to 9-track tapes.
Is anyone out there using any one of the following:
WORM drive
R/W Optical
8mm tape
If so, could you offer me any information on them, such as purchase
price, manufacturer, host system, problems encountered in use?
With respect to optical devices, how often do they need to be cleaned
or serviced, and how difficult are these procedures (assuming they
can be cleaned by a semi-compentent person such as myself so a service
call wouldn't need to be made)
I greatly appreciate any information you have to offer. Email'd
responses would probably be better, since this is probably of limited
interest to the net at large. Of course, if there is a large request,
I can mail or post a summary whatever I receive.
