Do any of y'all know where I can get the source code for a net benchmark to run under UNIX? Not NFSStone or anything like that, I need something that can stand alone. Thanks. -- -catt (cattanac@cs.uiuc.edu) For the list of ascii art, finger me (and ship me your ascii contributions).

Ultra uses a network benchmark program named "tsock," which is a distant descendant of the "ttcp" program from BRL. It basically measures process-to-process throughput across a network, using either memory or disk as source or sink. There are also numerous options (the "usage" message is over 25 lines long!), so you can probably make it do whatever you want. This program is available from Ultra, although since U. of Illinois is an UltraNet site (:-), there's probably a copy closer at hand (like on your Crays?). If you can't find anything there, gimme a holler and I'll tell you how to get a copy (I'll probably simply e-mail you a shar file, but I need to check into that first). Of course, you may already know about "tsock" and be looking for something else; if so, sorry for the wasted net bandwidth ...
