[comp.misc] Exabyte experience

ajayshah@alcor.usc.edu (Ajay Shah) (07/12/90)

My first exayte ever too:

I copied four logical files onto the exabyte using
	a command like
		tar cvbf 126 /dev/nrst0 directoryname
(might have got something garbled there).

Files 3 and 4 are fine. I.e., if I say something like
		mt -f /dev/nrst0 fsf 3
		tar tvbf /dev/nrst0
then file 4 lists fine. Ditto with file 3.

Attempting to list the contents of File 1 and 2 gives "tar:
premature EOF". I wonder why. All within a day of taking
	the backup.

It was a brand new SONY tape. Could it be owing to
mishandling/screwups by me? Any other experiences on exabyte
reliability.
