A friend of mine is looking for an inventory control program. They currently have IBM PC compatibles running MSDOS, so that platform would be the best right now. He's seen some software packages that are better suited for a manufacturing environment, but he needs something aimed more towards retail establishments. At some point, he hopes to use some sort of bar-code system for some of the input, so having that as an option would be a BIG plus. (BTW, some information on available software for printing bar-codes would be helpful too.) An ideal setup would have some sort of handheld device that would read the barcodes, and store the information until it could be uploaded to a PC later. Keep in mind that cost IS an issue.
